Nov 1950 Leedy & Ludwig LM395 'Knob Tension' in White Marine Pearl - 5.5x14
Nothing quite like a Knob Tension! This experimental tensioning system by Leedy & Ludwig designed by George Way (and rumored to be the reason for his firing) was short-lived. These drums are particular to say the least. This one has had some repair work done by Lucas Aldridge. All knobs turn and tension. Muffler present and functional. Throw works and holds. Wires are rigged with a metal strip as this drum required wires with an attached metal strip on either end to screw into the throw and butt plate. Hardware is fairly clean with some pitting and oxidation. Batter ‘hoop’ has some scuffs and residue. There’s a touch of wrap shrinkage that is visible on the thumbscrew that is on the batter side of the panel opposite the badge. These drums are quite fragile, but this is a fantastic piece for for an interesting collection.
